Una Visión Propia

Una Visión Propia is a curatorial project conceived and curated by Marta Soul for the platform Cómo Ser Fotógrafa (CSF). The exhibition brings together portraits created by ten women photographers portraying leading female figures from Spain’s contemporary cultural scene. Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own, the project reflects on the need for artistic autonomy and the importance of constructing a gaze free from classical and patriarchal aesthetic conventions.

First presented at the Museo Lázaro Galdiano as part of the Official Selection of PHotoEspaña 2023, the exhibition later travelled to the Museo del Greco (Toledo), expanding its reach and dialogue with new audiences. Across these venues, Una Visión Propia foregrounds the emotional and collaborative nature of portraiture and the creative relationship between photographer and sitter.

Featuring more than thirty portraits by Angélica Dass, Carmela García, Elisa Miralles, Estela de Castro, Gloria Oyarzábal, Laura M. Lombardía, María Platero, Paula Anta, Sofía Moro and Soledad Córdoba, the project celebrates a diverse group of women —artists, writers, filmmakers, designers, musicians and cultural leaders— whose contributions have often remained underrepresented.

Through this collective effort, Una Visión Propia aims to reclaim visibility, broaden the narratives of contemporary Spanish culture, and open new spaces for dialogue around women’s photographic practice today.
