Together
Together series emerges from my stay in Los Angeles, on summer 2012, when I met film producers, directors, style artists, and of course actors. It was a great chance for expressing ideas about the importance of context where certain social behaviours take place, like flirting, but it also allowed to reflect about the movie myths and the influence that they might have had on these social behaviours.
Building on my relationship with these people, I tried to produce a series of images of groups of characters, where individuals emulated cinematographic myths. The idea was to evoke a meeting between some of the film characters that I have always loved, and then to represent a series of moments that they could have lived together. There it was Billy Wilder’s Sabrina,Margo, from Makiewicz’s All About Eve,or Alfie.
The series evolves within spaces that seem to be generating socialization, so the scenes incorporate behaviours immediately linked to those places. For instance, flirting and imitation occur in the night club, whereas the search for intimacy or the adaptation to others happens within the domestic locations. I have also tried to include everyday situations, where we tend to feel more comfortable if we are not alone, like practicing sports or doing some shopping.
Once I started to work with the series, after coming back to Spain, I carried on creating fictitious scenes around the same concepts, imagining possible characters and establishing new behavioural patterns and types of interactions between them.
In sum, by reuniting these imaginary characters in new contexts, the series aims at generating a visual reflection upon the role of the social group in our contemporary values.
